Shark Cootie Catcher – Origami for Kids

We used to play

with these a lot as kids, but this shark cootie catcher is even more awesome than your typical fortune teller! Origami projects for kids are great for beginners, and this one is no exception!

To begin, print our template, which is perfect for kids—you can use glossy paper or regular print paper—and cut out the square with the shark design and the accompanying fins. Next, fold the square paper in half to create a crisp fold .move a craft stick over the crease. It will be simpler to fold this origami if the folds are clean and crisp. Open up.

Turn the paper over and fold across the middle once more. Unfold and crease.

Turn the paper over so that the white side—which should be toward the table—is facing you.

Fold all four corners in the direction of the center (to understand how your creation should look, check the figure below).

Once more, turn the paper over so that the pattern is facing the table and the white side is facing you.

Again, fold the four corners inward toward the center.

Verify the folds’ crispness by running a craft stick over them.

To create the long rectangle, fold the square form in half; the toothed side will remain inside.

To open the cootie catcher, insert your fingers inside the square pockets and press the flaps upward.

It could take some finger wriggling to get the shark cootie catcher to materialize.

The fins are the last thing to add to your ferociously cute shark after it has been folded. The fins are the last thing to add to your ferociously cute shark after it has been folded.

If you want only the shark’s mouth to open, you can also glue the head and body together.
